Arena’s responsibility is to teach AI the difference between right and wrong. We believe that AI must benefit people. Our core thesis is simple: to align AI with human value, we must directly measure its impact on people in the real world.

Our Story

Created by researchers from UC Berkeley SkyLab, Arena is a community-powered platform for understanding AI performance in the real world. We build the public leaderboard that the AI industry relies on to measure progress.

Our Core Values

Maximize P(Win)

“Maximize the Probability of Winning”: our decision making framework. In every decision, we weigh tradeoffs, assess risk, and choose the path that maximizes the probability that Arena succeeds. We set aside our emotions and make tough decisions in order to maximize P(Win). “Maximize P(Win)” frees us from constraints and clarifies that we must put Arena first.

Own the Outcome

We own results end to end — not just our individual slice of the work. When problems arise and we have the means to act, we do so without waiting for permission or assignment. We treat failure and success as signals and use them to improve. At Arena, we stay accountable to the final outcome.

Elevate Others

Steel sharpens steel. By bringing our best selves to work, we push each other to learn and grow. We expect excellence from one another because we respect each other. We elevate others as opposed to ourselves: no hoarding of responsibilities, no ego, and a healthy disregard for hierarchy.
